What is the Friends of St David’s?

St David’s was built as the Soldiers’ Memorial Church with the promise “to keep green the faith and courage and sacrifice” of those who gave their lives in WWI. The Friends of Saint David’s Trust is a registered New Zealand charity founded to keep that promise, to Remember Them by saving the Soldiers’ Memorial Church from demolition.

Why donate?

100 years on from the Gallipoli landings, many memorials are at risk of being demolished due to new earthquake requirements. Funds raised will save one of New Zealand’s first WW1 Memorials, fulfilling our annual promise to Remember Them.

What happens if we don’t raise enough?

If, for any reason, the restoration of the church does not proceed, the funds raised will go to the Returned Services Association and the Royal New Zealand Engineers’ Charitable Trust, who are supporting the “Remember Them” campaign, and used to restore other war memorials.

What happens if we raise more than is needed?

All residual funds will also be distributed to help save other New Zealand war memorials.
